Description

The “Pavliades-Dyo Mouttes” natural trail resides in Nicosia district in Macharas forest and is found in the road that connects Vavatsinia and Kionia picnic area. This one is simply amazing. Its beauty and the views that it offers will steal your heart for sure. The route is considered as moderate due to certain uphills and downhills and it is 4.8 km long. The trail is circular with the first and last kilometer having the same route. The whole route can be done between 1 hour and 1 hour and a half and its maximum altitude is at 1351 meters.

Viewpoints

This trail has something special and unique when compared with the rest of Machairas forest. The reason is that it is mainly covered with the endemic Latzia (Quercus Alnifolia), which makes it very interesting. Furthermore, the trail goes on the slopes of the mountain offering in most of the times outstanding views of the cities Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol.

The name of the trail «dyo mouttes» means «two mountain peaks» and the reason is obvious. There are viewpoints on those two mountain peaks where you can enjoy a panoramic view of all the surrounding area. One of the peaks is at 1371 meters and the other one at 1356 meters. Starting points

The trail is circular and it’s starting point is found in the road that connects Vavatsinia and Kionia picnic area. You can either follow the road directions and be careful of the road signs for the trail or simply follow the GPS coordinates that are depicted in the table Natural trail information.

Personal comments

I am so amazed with the beauty of the Dyo Mouttes trail. First of all the endemic latzia tree prevails here and sometimes forms an arch that you go through and along with the rich forest of Macharia makes the route so enjoyable. The walk in the mountain’s slopes at an altitude of ~1350 meters with the extraordinary view unfolding in front of you is divine!! Seeing everything from that height: the forest, the mountains, the cities in the background and the sea in Limassol with the huge cruise ships, it is truly breathtaking!

Additionally, you will notice at some points in the route having a Y-junction Thus it splits into two routes. One of the directions is the continuation of the trail and the other one takes you to the mountain’s peaks where you can admire a 360 panoramic view of the area. Those two points are depicted in the GPS map described further below.
