Treis Elies to Tzielefos trail : 4 beautiful venetian bridges

by Savvas Michail

Description

A versatile trail with different sections where each section changes in terrain and scenery. The trail Treis Elies to Tzielefos Venetian bridges passes through 4 Venetian bridges and one thing is for sure, it will not get you bored. It traverses from lush greenery scenes to panoramic views, hiking on top of the mountains and passing through the dense Paphos forest causing continuous excitement!

The Treis Elies to Tzielefos bridge is linear and it is part of the trail Venetian bridges, which crosses the Paphos forest with its final destination the Routhkias Venetian bridge. This shorter version sums up to 10km in one way. The difficulty of the trail is moderate with the hike duration coming up to 3-4 hours when hiked from Treis Elies to Tzielefos. If you hike the other way around or do the round trip, then the difficulty increases.

Viewpoints

I will split the trail into the following sections:

  • Section 1: Treis Elies trail with total distance around 2.5km. This part of the trail provides a lush green with trees surrounding you most of the time making the hike very refreshing. Most of the time you will also be accompanied by the running stream enhancing the experience even better. Through this part you will cross two Venetian bridges, the bridge of Dragonda and the bridge of Mylos.
  • Section 2: When Treis Elies ends you enter the asphalt road for a little bit until you find the sign for the Venetian bridges trail, where our route continues on a gravel road with a continuous uphill. The only interesting part of this section is the panoramic view of the nearby area.
  • Section 3: At the top of the mountain the trail appears again and takes you on the ridgeline of the mountains with beautiful views of the Paphos forest! The scenery is different from the first section but equally amazing. The descent of this section takes us to the Elias Venetian bridge.
  • Section 4: We continue with a little bit of road and then gravel road again. However this part is much prettier than section 2. The road is narrow and covered by the tall trees making the scenery very graphic and appealing.  The gravel road at the beginning is nothing special but later on enters deep into the forest with tall trees everywhere. The view is incredible!!
  • Section 5: A sign appears with the trail path on your left side. The trail takes us to Tzielefos Venetian bridge, which is also our final destination.

Starting points

Since the trail is linear and both of its edges are accessible by car you have two options:

  • Treis Elies starting point, which is located outside of the Treis Elies village on the road towards Kaminaria.
  • Tzielefos bridge, which is very popular and can be easily found on the map.

For additional information about the locations, check the trail information table.

Personal comments

The trail is absolutely outstanding! It never lets you get bored. Each section provides a different scenery, which spikes up the enthusiasm and curiosity of what is next. It is definitely worth the visit and personally I recommend doing it from Treis Elies to Tzielefos bridge, so you can rest at the end of the Tzielefos bridge and treat yourself to a well deserved ice cream (There is an ice cream truck nearby, especially in the summer).
